Orthodonotics

Orthodontic braces or dental braces is a mode of treatment used in dentistry to align your imperfectly placed teeth in a uniform manner.

Dental braces are used in various clinical situations:
  • Close gaps between the teeth
  • Proper alignment of crowded, overlapping or twisted teeth
  • Push back protruding front teeth
  • Correction of patients bites pattern thus reducing strain on the jaw muscles and joints.
  • Improve the appearance of the teeth
  • Improve the appearance of the teeth
  • Helps to look after the long term health of your teeth, gums and joints
At what age should I have orthodontic treatment?

The best time for orthodontic treatment is during childhood or adolescence when the teeth and jaws are in the developing or growing stage.

However adults can also undergo orthodontic treatment and more and more are doing so.

How do braces work?

Braces work by continuously applying pressure over a period of time to slowly move teeth in the desired position. As the teeth move, bone changes shape as pressure is applied.

We we offer different orthodontic treatment options:
Metallic braces:

These are the metal brackets and wires are placed on the teeth. Most noticeable type of braces. Newer metal brackets are much smaller in size though and lighter in weight. Made up of high grade stainless steel.

Ceramic braces:

Same size and shape as metal brackets, except they have tooth colored brackets that easily blend with natural teeth and hence more aesthetic. Even tooth coloured wire may be used making it even more noticeable. They are popular in adult patients

Lingual braces:

Same as metal braces except that brackets and wires are placed on the inside surface of the teeth. Thus they are invisible from outside. Can be used in limited cases.

Invisible braces:

Consists of series of custom made clear plastic aligners. They are removable. Can’t be used for complicated cases. Each set of aligner is worn for 2 weeks before being replaced with the next one. They should be worn for 22 to 23 hrs a day for best results

Invisible Braces

Teeth aligner systems using invisible braces are a relatively new treatment option for orthodontic patients. An invisible align system straightens your teeth by the use of clear, removable plastic tooth aligners. This avoids the use of conventional braces treatment which includes putting brackets, wire and elastic bands into your mouth.

These aligners make orthodontic treatment practically invisible. The biggest advantage is being able to take out your braces whenever you need to. Invisible aligners are thin clear vacuum moulded plastic appliances designed to fit snugly over your teeth.

Advantages

  • High acceptance among adult patients as they are invisible
  • Chewing food is easier as they can be removed while eating food.
  • Cleaning teeth is easy as they can be removed while eating food.
  • As they are made up of plastic, they don’t irritate oral tissues unlike traditional braces can cause ulcers in the mouth.
  • They can be used in smile designing cases where minor corrections in the front teeth positioning can be done without the use of crowns and veneers.

Case planning for the invisible braces involves digitizing the patient’s information and then by the use of software, an on-screen animated visual representation of the patient is created. This representation can be viewed and manipulated by the dentist with the aid of software. Evaluation of treatment can be done at any stage and progress can be shared with the patient.

How do invisible braces work?

The snug fit of the aligners generates a force that straightens the teeth. As you wear each set of aligners, your teeth will gradually shift into the desired place. You will be asked to wear a new set of aligners every 2 weeks. Each set of aligners is responsible for just one step of your treatment. Each aligner just repositions specific teeth.
